[OCI] How to Check Remaining Credits in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

If you are using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Free Trial account, Oracle provides free trial credits that you can use for creating virtual machines, databases, storage, and other cloud services.

Many users want to know:

  • How many OCI credits are left?
  • How much credit has been used?
  • When will the trial expire?

In this blog post, we will learn step-by-step how to check remaining credits in OCI

OCI Free Tier Duration

Oracle Free Tier generally provides:

  • $300 free credits
  • Valid for 30 days

After trial expiration:

  • Paid resources stop working
  • Always Free resources continue running

Always Free Resources

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) provides a special Always Free tier that allows users to use selected cloud services permanently without paying any charges, subject to certain usage limits.

Unlike the 30-day free trial credits, Always Free resources continue working even after your trial credits expire.

Some OCI services remain free forever, such as:

  • Small VM instances
  • Block storage
  • Object storage
  • Autonomous database (limited)

On Oracle Cloud Free Tier screen, select the Tier Type as Always Free to view all Free resources.

Always Free vs Free Trial

Steps to Check Remaining Credits in OCI

  • Enter your Tenancy/Cloud Account Name and click Next button
  • By default when you sign up for OCI Free Tier account only one Identity Domain (Default) is present. But, you will be then presented to choose the Identity Domain, if there are multiple Identity Domains in your OCI account. Select the desired Identity Domain and click Next button

  • Enter the Admin User OCI account credentials and click Sign In button

  • After successful login you will be redirected to OCI Home Page:

  • Click on Navigator button and under Billing & Cost Management click on Overview link in Cost Management section.

  • Cost Management screen shows your Active subscription and also shows total credits and how many credits are left.
  • Cost Management section contains:

    • Credit balance
    • Usage details
    • Billing reports
    • Subscription information

  • Scroll down and hover the mouse over each metric to see:
    • Cost by compartment

    • Cost by region

    • Cost by product description

  • You can also change the Time Frame to view historical cost data

Checking remaining OCI credits is very simple through the Billing & Cost Management section in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Monitoring your credits regularly helps avoid unexpected trial expiration and allows better resource management.

If you are learning cloud technologies, OCI Free Tier is an excellent platform to practice services like Compute, Database, Networking, and Kubernetes at no cost.
